Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Kris Fredheim (FRED-haim) for the 2010-11 season.

The sixth-round selection (#185 overall) of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft joined the Salmon Kings after the 2009-10 regular season to begin his professional career and dressed for all five Kelly Cup Playoff contests versus Bakersfield registering one assist.

"Kris is an offensive defenseman and we expect his transition to the pro game to be very fluid," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He was solid in the playoffs last season and got better every game. He brings youth, speed and offense to the backend."

The Campbell River, BC native joined the Salmon Kings last season after completing a four-year college career with the Colorado College Tigers. In 125 career contests as a Tiger he recorded 32 points (8g-24a) with 126 penalty minutes. These numbers included 16 points (4g-12a) and 46 penalty minutes in 36 games played during the 2009-10 season. Fredheim was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Offensive Player of the Week in December during the 2008-09 season.

The 6-2, 195 lb. Fredheim spent two seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) with the Notre Dame Hounds prior to going to school. In 102 career games with Notre Dame he registered 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points and 103 minutes in penalties.

In the 2005-06 season with Notre Dame, Fredheim was voted SJHL Defenseman of the Year and was named a runner-up for the SJHL Player of the Year. He also is a former Defensive Player of the Year in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and played for Team Pacific at the 2004 Under-17 World Championships in Newfoundland

The Salmon Kings open the 2010-11 season on Friday, October 15th in Idaho with a two-game set versus the defending National Conference champion Steelheads. Victoria returns home to open up their schedule at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre with a three-game set versus the Ontario Reign beginning Wednesday, October 27th.
