The Louisville Bats offense was stymied on Wednesday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to the St. Paul Saints, dropping the to a season-low eight games below .500 for the first time at 50-58.

Rehabbing Reds starter Nick Lodolo looked good early, allowing just one run over the first four innings.

The Bats got the game even in the top of the third, with doubles from P.J. Higgins and Francisco Urbaez evening the score.

The game unraveled for Lodolo in the fifth. With two on and one out, Kaelen Culpepper's double to left scored a pair to put the home team up 3-1 and end Lodolo's start. Over 4.1 innings, he allowed three runs on five this with two walks and four strikeouts.

St. Paul plated one more run off Zach Maxwell in the sixth, and that would be too much for the Bats to overcome.

After starter Ryan Gallagher struck out nine Bats over six innings, Saints relievers Ruddy Gomez, Marco Raya, and Julian Merryweather combined to wrap up the win with a scoreless inning each.

The loss continues the Bats' second-half struggles, as they have dropped 15 of 18 games since the All-Star break.
