Saints Re-Sign Speedy Forward

June 23, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints today announced that forward Jarret Metz has been re-signed to the team's roster and will continue to play his professional hockey in San Angelo – where he has played all 3 of his previous pro seasons. He is also one of the few players remaining from the last time San Angelo made the playoffs.

Metz started last year strong, then struggled a bit after suffering hip and wrist injuries from an awkward hit into the boards. He also finished strong and tallied 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 54 games. With a full off-season to recover, the Saints are counting on Metz to return to the form that saw him score 27 goals and 20 assists during the 2001-02 season.

"I've heard great things about Metz from the other players, fans and staff," said Saints head coach Ray Edwards. "He's got a great shot and works hard on the boards and should flourish with the more systemized approach I am implementing this season."

The 25-year old left-winger from Vernon, British Columbia is the 5th player signed by the Saints for the 2003-04 season and the 4th returning player from last year's team. He joins fellow forward Steve Roberts on the Saints' roster along with defensemen Derek Booth, Konrad Brand and Corri Moffat.

"We are very pleased to have a player of Metz' caliber and character back this season," said Saints President Jim Cook. "He is well-liked by the fans and will be a definite asset to our team and our organization."
