Saints Lose Third Straight 2-1 to Saltdogs

LINCOLN, NE (July 1, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints are limping to the finish line of the first half of the season as they lost for the third straight night to the Lincoln Saltdogs 2-1 at Haymarket Park.

In a very good pitching match-up Jake Postlewait, sixth best ERA in the American Association went up against undefeated Josh Kauten, 5-0. The hurlers lived up to their billing.

The Saints scored first in the third inning as Scooter Jordan led off with a walk, the 10th consecutive game he has drawn a walk. He stole second and advanced to third when the throw went into centerfield. Jordan scored on a ground out by Matt Brunson.

The Saltdogs capitalized in the bottom of the inning when Pichi Balet singled and moved to second on a ground out. Three batters later he scored on a single by Jay Yaconetti.

The Saltdogs took the lead in the seventh when Balet led off with a walk and Seth Pietsch followed by doubling him home.

Postlewait went 7.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out three and Kauten went 8.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking three and striking out seven to improve to 6-0.

The same two teams meet in the final game of the first half on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The Saints will send RHP Kyle Foster (0-0, 3.75) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Dan Reichert (3-3, 6.06). The game can be heard on KBGY 107.5 FM.
