Pensacola 8, Sioux City 5

Five scoreless innings of relief pitching and two Pensacola home runs helped the Pelicans to an 8-5 win against Sioux City and a series sweep. Pensacola gave up five runs in the first four innings, but three relievers combined to shut out Sioux City the rest of the way. Chris Thompson nabbed a two-inning save while striking out two. At the plate, Pensacola got three hits from SS Ricardo Cordova and LF Napoleon Calzado and C Michael DeCarlo added a three-run homer to cushion Pensacola's lead. Sioux City was led by Jorge Moreno's 3-for-5 effort, with three RBI and a home run of his own.

El Paso 5, Fort Worth 4 (11 innings)

CF Kory Drew's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning scored the winning run for El Paso in their 5-4 victory against Fort Worth. Fort Worth had raced out to a 4-0 lead after four innings and were cruising behind starting pitcher Nick Martin, who retired the first 16 El Paso batters he faced. Martin saw his perfect game get broken up in the sixth inning, and he gave up runs in the seventh and eighth as El Paso tied the game at four runs apiece. In the 11th, El Paso LF Logan Wood led off the inning with a triple, then Fort Worth loaded the bases with two intentional walks. Drew's pop fly to the outfield was enough to drive in Wood for the win. Fort Worth pounded 16 hits, but could only muster four runs. El Paso's relief crew didn't allow a run in the last five innings.

Lincoln 2, St. Paul 1

Lincoln continued its hot streak against St. Paul by edging the Saints in a classic pitching duel, 2-1. Lincoln starter Josh Kauten pitched eight dominant innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven. He earned the win to up his record to 6-0 as his team won the third game in a row of the four-game series. His counterpart, St. Paul starter Jake Postlewait, also had a strong game. Postlewait threw seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs, but was tagged with the loss. Matt Varner pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save. Lincoln broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning with the decisive run on a Pichi Balet walk and a Seth Pietsch double. The Saltdogs rapped ten hits, with two from Pietsch, 1B Brett Cooley and 3B Jay Yaconetti.

Sioux Falls 8, St. Joe 2

Sioux Falls scored the games first eight runs, all in the first five innings, and never looked back to take an 8-2 victory against St. Joe. Sioux Falls starter Jeff Landing threw six innings of shutout ball, allowing only four hits and three walks. He was boosted by a Sioux Falls offense led by three hits from C Tim Marks. Marks drove in two runs, as did DH Will Smith, and each of the Canaries top-eight hitters had at least one hit. St. Joe got a shutout inning from three different relievers.

Coastal Bend 4, Shreveport 1 (Game 1 - 7 innings)

Coastal Bend got a great outing from starting pitcher J.R. Pickens to take a 4-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Shreveport. Pickens pitched all seven innings and allowed seven hits and no walks. He struck out six and ran his record to 3-1. Leadoff man CF Brian Fryer and RF Juan Figueroa each had two hits, but DH Bryon Smith did the most damage with two RBI for Coastal Bend. Shreveport got a solo home run from 2B Jack Joffrion but couldn't plate any more runs. Shreveport starter Colby Miller went all six innings, allowing nine hits and no walks while striking out three.

Shreveport 5, Coastal Bend 0 (Game 2 - 7 innings)

Shreveport bounced right back in the second game of the doubleheader with some strong pitching of their own to shutout Coastal Bend 5-0. Starting pitcher Mal Winters combined with relievers Grant Wilson and Matt Lawrence on a six-hit shutout to split the day's two games. 2B Jack Joffrion smoked another home run and finished a nice 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs to lead Shreveport. Joffrion added a double in the second game, and ran his totals on the day to 4-for-6 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs.
