San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints are excited to announce today the team's first player signing for the 2003-2004 season. 6-3, 240 pound defenseman Konrad Brand has signed to return to San Angelo, where he made his professional debut for the Saints last season.

Brand came to the Saints at the mid-point of last year and quickly became a crowd favorite for his physical play. In 39 games with the Saints last season Brand notched 2 goals and 6 assists (8 points) and 36 PIMs. He also recorded the highest plus/minus rating of any Saints defenseman. Brand joined the Saints after finishing up the college season at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology where he played with fellow Saints Cory Pecush and Scott Reid.

"I've heard real good things about Konrad from the other coaches around the league and the Saints' staff," said Saints head coach Ray Edwards. "He's a big kid with real potential and he's willing to keep learning. He is a great start to building our defense."

"He's also got great character," added Edwards. "He's a great young man and the kind of player you want on your team."

Edwards has been recruiting from his home in Pensacola, FL and is due to arrive in San Angelo next Monday.
