Saint Louis FC News Release

Saint Louis FC defeated AFC Cleveland 2-0 in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night in St. Louis.

The first goal came in the 22nd when Jamiel Hardware scored his first goal of the seaon with an assist from Kentaro Takada.

"It was a one-two from Takada. We've been working on it in practice, so I'm just glad to see it come through" Hardware said when he was asked about the goal.

After the half, Seth Rudolph made his first STLFC appearance when he substituted in for Charles Renken. Rudolph made his presence known immediately. In his first few minutes in the game, he received a beautiful pass from Takada and took a shot on goal. His header went just over.

The second and final goal of the night came in the 77th minute. After receiving a through ball from Rudolph, Jordan Roberts slotted the ball past Cleveland's goalkeeper for his first goal of the regular season.

Roberts credits his game success to the improvements he has made in practice.

"I knew I just had to get past that defender and get a shot out. I've been working in practice on the tight angles so I was really comfortable with it."

STLFC will host Minnesota United FC in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. in a replay of last year's third round matchup.

Saint Louis FC hits the road in a conference matchup with the Tulsa Roughnecks on Saturday.
