Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Tuesday, January, 29, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs have announced the signings of Stephen Bianchi and Dean Sadik, both competing this spring in the MAAC, an NCAA Division 1 conference.
"After the production we saw from Vin Teixeira last year, an infielder who represented the MAAC from Manhattan College, we are excited to announce two outstanding players to our team for 2013," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations.
Bianchi, of Hopkinton, MA, is currently a junior at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He is a 6-foot-5, 205-pound right handed pitcher.
As a Freshman at Iona College, Bianchi appeared in seven games, with four starts. His best start of the season came in his second outing against Sacred Heart. Bianchi allowed one earned run on five hits and one strikeout over 5.1 innings. As a Sophomore, he was named to the 2012 MAAC All-Academic Team, and appeared in four games.
Bianchi is excited about the upcoming 2013 season.
"I am happy to be a part of the organization," said Bianchi, "I am looking forward to helping my teammates win as many games as possible."
Sadik, of Forest Hills, NY, is currently a sophomore at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. He is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound infielder.
As a high school senior, Sadik produced a .420 batting average and was selected to the All-Queens First Team. During his freshman year at Fairfield, he was named to the 2012 MAAC Academic Honor Roll while appearing in 33 games including 20 starts at third and second base. Sadek finished the season with an impressive .329 average, 14 walks, 15 runs scored, and 6 RBI, including a 2-2 performance during the MAAC Championship game against Manhattan.
Sadik is looking forward to the summer with the Dirt Dawgs.
"This is a great opportunity for me to go against other great competition," said Sadik, "the FCBL is a new and upcoming league, and I am looking forward to helping the Dirt Dawgs win an FCBL championship and getting to connect with players other than the MAAC players that I am used to."
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their second season at home on Thursday, June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, an NCAA sanctioned wood bat summer league.
