Ticha Penicheiro of the Sacramento Monarchs is first in WNBA history with a career average of 6.8 assists per game and a total of 1,491 assists. She needs just nine assists to reach 1,500 for her career.
Penicheiro has led the WNBA in assists in six different seasons; however in 2004, she ranked fourth in the league with a 4.9 average and is looking to regain her crown from Nikki Teasley of the Los Angeles Sparks, who led the WNBA last season with 6.1 assists per game.
Penicheiro enters tonight's game against Connecticut ranked tenth in the league with 4.1 assists per game.
