The Playoff Streak Continues

With a thrilling 77-74 victory over the Seattle Storm on Sept. 9, 2008, the Sacramento Monarchs secured a WNBA Playoff berth for the sixth consecutive season; their streak is the longest current streak of its kind in the Western Conference.

Penicheiro: WNBA's All-Time Leader in Assists and Steals

On Sept. 5, 2008, Ticha Penicheiro became the first player in WNBA history to eclipse the 2,000 assist mark as she dished out five against the Mercury in Phoenix. She currently has 2,023 (6.0 per game) career assists, as of 9/15/08.

Penicheiro recorded 67 steals during the 2008 season to tally 655 career steals and become the WNBA's all-time steal leader. In doing so, she passed the former mark of 632 set by Sheryl Swoopes.

Jan. 29: Signed guard/forward Hamchétou Maïga-Ba; re-signed Chelsea Newton, Ticha Penicheiro, DeMya Walker...March 20: Acquired center/forward Barbara Farris from Phoenix in exchange for guard A'Quonesia Franklin and forward Kim Smith...Apr. 9: Selected center Courtney Paris (7th overall), guard Whitney Boddie (20th over- all) and guard Morgan Warburton (33rd overall) in the 2009 WNBA Draft...May 25: Waived center/forward Barbara Farris.

Monarchs Appearance Calendar

Tues., June 2 - WNBA Cares Event

During WNBA Cares Week, the Monarchs will make a visit to Franklin Library and help tip off the Sacramento Public Library Summer Reading Program. Participants who complete the Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading Program will enjoy a night out with the Monarchs as they will receive a complimentary ticket to the Monarchs vs. Sparks game on August 1. At this event, players will have a Q & A session, distribute books and other giveaways for the kids. Monty will make a visit to the kids and the Sacramento Breakers will perform.
