NEWPORT, R.I. - The Newport Gulls have been recognized as Newport County's Best Family-Friendly Entertainment for two consecutive years and countless other seasons in the past by Newport Life Magazine. This is a tremendous honor and is a perennial goal of the organization, just as winning a New England Collegiate Baseball League Championship is. Each game, fans are welcomed to the ballpark for a new theme night. Little League Night, Frontline Heroes Night, and Teachers Appreciation are a few themes that have transpired thus far in 2021. On Wednesday, June 30, there will be a truly unique opportunity for fans as Saccucci Honda, located in Middletown, RI, is partnering with the Gulls to allow fans the chance to leave Cardines Field with a brand-new car!
Eligible participants can sign up prior to the start of the game to try their luck at throwing a baseball through a six (6) inch hole from 120 feet away- the distance from home to second base.
Fans will only be allowed one chance at the throw and cannot warmup prior to their attempt. Current or former professional or semi-professional baseball players and coaches are among the list of individuals not permitted to give it a shot.
The event was held in 2019, and although some were close, no one walked away with the car courtesy of Saccucci Honda. Gates open at 5:00pm and registration for the competition will ensue shortly afterwards in the Cardines Field Picnic Area. Registration is capped at 50 participants who will be randomly selected to take their turn on the field throughout the game. First pitch is 6:35pm. Parking is available at the Newport Visitors Center located across the street from Cardines Field (20 America's Cup Ave. Newport) for $2.00 with a game ticket.
