San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2006) - Not since the days of the old Forest Dragons in the late 1990's has Arena Football been in Portland. That will change next month.

The two-time Arena Football League champion San Jose SaberCats will be holding a free agent player tryout on Saturday, October 21, at Griswold Stadium on the campus of Lewis & Clark College.

The tryout, which is open to players not currently enrolled in college or who have already exhausted their eligibility, will be similar in format to a Standard Football Combine.

All players will be weighed and measured, followed by testing in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle and broad jump. In addition, participants will be evaluated in a series of position-specific drills and one-on-ones based on offensive and defensive skills

Interested participants are encouraged to pre-register on the team's official website, www.sanjosesabercats.com, at a cost of $50. The fee is payable by credit card. Walk-up registration is $60 and must be paid in cash or with a money order. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with testing starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. The tryout will take place on artificial turf so appropriate footwear and workout gear is required.

Lewis & Clark College is located at 0615 S.W. Palatine Hill Road in Portland. Griswold Stadium is situated at the entrance to the main campus.

Shilo Inn of Beaverton and Tigard Square will serve as host hotels for the event. To get more information and make a room reservation visit www.shiloinns.com or call 1-800-222-2244. Both Inns are within 10 miles of the camp location.

The city of Portland and the Rose Garden were home to the AFL's Forest Dragons from 1997-99. The franchise relocated to Oklahoma City prior to the 2000 season.
