
SaberCats Sign Former SJSU Star Larry Thompson

SAN JOSE, Calif. (November 6, 2002) â Former San José State University defensive back Larry Thompson today signed a three-year contract with the World Champion San José SaberCats of the Arena Football League, announced head coach Darren Arbet. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Thompson (6-1, 190) played in all 12 games with the Spartans in 2001 leading the team in tackles with 102 and interceptions with four. He joined the Spartans' squad midway through the 2000 campaign and finished the season as the starting free safety.
Thompson was a 1999 JC Grid Wire honorable mention All-American and first-team all-state selection for Los Angeles Southwest College. As a sophomore, he was 22nd among California Community College players with five interceptions.
A native of Snyder, Texas, Thompson joins former San José State players Rashied Davis and Travis Seaton who recently signed contracts with the SaberCats.
The 2003 season marks the historical debut of the AFL on NBC. The network will broadcast up to four AFL games on a regional basis each regular-season Sunday (except March 30) plus all playoff games for a possible total of 70 contests.
