SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 22, 2007) - The San Jose SaberCats signed former National Football League defensive end RON WARNER to a free agent contract, the two-time ArenaBowl champions announced today.

Adding experience to a mostly revamped and young roster, Warner (6-3, 270) played in 20 career NFL games with the Saints, Bears, Buccaneers and Redskins. He finished his career with 22 tackles (12 solo), 3.5 sacks, 1 interception and a Super Bowl ring.

"This guy has been around the game for quite some time," stated Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet. "He will be able to provide leadership and direction to some of the younger guys on the team."

Hailing from Independence, Kansas, Warner played two seasons of junior college ball before being invited to join the Kansas Jayhawks roster. In only two seasons, Warner accumulated 20.5 sacks, which is still the second highest total in school history. In 1997, he had a remarkable season by pulling down the QB a record-setting 14.5 times.

After earning third-team All-American and first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors, Warner was selected in the 7th round (239th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. His finest season came as a member of the Washington Redskins in 2004, where he played in 14 games accounting for 17 tackles (9 solo), 3.5 sacks and 1 interception. Warner saw action on special teams for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they defeated the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.

The SaberCats open training camp for their 13th AFL season on February 2 and will begin the season in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 4. San Jose will play its home opener on Saturday, March 31 against the Tampa Bay Storm.

A premier franchise in the AFL, San Jose has captured two ArenaBowl titles, six Western Division championships, seven consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade. Season and group tickets are available now by calling (408) 573-5577 or by visiting the team's official website - www.sanjosesabercats.com.
