SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned quarterback Dennis Havrilla and offensive lineman Randy Richards. Correspondingly, defensive lineman Ernest Owusu was placed on league suspension, and quarterback Russ Michna was placed on injured reserve.

"Injuries are a part of football" said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. "They are unfortunate, but we believe these two players can help solidify our team."

Havrilla (6-1, 195, Western New Mexico) spent training camp with the Spokane Shock prior to the 2014 season. He played one season of college ball for Western New Mexico in 2009, where he tossed for 1,581 yards with 13 touchdowns in nine games, and added 88 rushes for 433 yards and six scores on the ground. With the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 2007, Havrilla appeared in all ten games, throwing for 1,928 yards with 19 touchdowns to nine interceptions. In addition, he rushed for 247 yards on 102 carries with four scores on the ground.

Richards (6-4, 315, Missouri State) is an AFL rookie. As an undrafted free agent, he has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers of the National Football League. Richards played two seasons for the Missouri State Bears. In 2012, he served as co-captain and started all 11 games at right tackle. Richards earned AFCA All-America distinction at season's end, as well Associated Press All-American third-team honors. In 2011, his first season with the Bears, he started all 11 games at right tackle.

The SaberCats are back in action this Saturday, June 7th at 7:30 pm as the LA KISS make their first appearance in San Jose this season. Tune in live on KNBR 1050 or stream the game through ESPN3 online.
