San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (February 11, 2006) - In preparation for their game Sunday against Western Division rival Arizona, the San Jose SaberCats made several roster moves just before the clash of 2002 and 2004 ArenaBowl participants.

The SaberCats activated linemen Dan Loney, Julius Gant and Alan Harper along with WR/LB Ben Nelson from injured reserve. All four are expected to play Sunday when the teams meet in Phoenix's U.S. Airways Center at 5:00 p.m. (PT).

To make room on the roster, the team placed linemen Jeff Ruffin (trap strain) and George Williams (ankle), and WR/LB Kevin McKenzie (groin strain) on injured reserve. All three players will be required to miss a minimum of two weeks. The team also released lineman Frank Beede.

Both Williams and McKenzie sustained their injuries in San Jose's 51-48 loss at Las Vegas on Monday.

Gant, Harper and Nelson are all rookies and will be making their Arena Football League debuts on Sunday. Loney, the team's starting center last season, is a four-year veteran of the SaberCats.

San Jose's game against the Rattlers will be the second of a team record five-game road trip and the 27th meeting between the storied AFL franchises. The game will kick off at 5:00 p.m. (PT) and can be heard on San Jose's flagship radio station KNBR 1050 and KNBR 680. The contest will also be televised live in the Bay Area on KBWB (WB20).

The SaberCats return to HP Pavilion for a 3:00 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Avengers on Sunday, March 12. Tickets are available and can be purchased at any Northern California Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.com or at the HP Pavilion box office.
