San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jun. 3, 2005) – San Jose SaberCats record-setting offensive specialist RASHIED DAVIS signed a three-year contract with the NFL's Chicago Bears, the team announced today. In keeping with the Bears policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The SaberCats ‘Most Valuable Player' and ‘Offensive Player of the Year,' Davis (5-10, 180, San Jose State) shattered team records by finishing the season with 44 touchdowns and 264 points, and tied a team record with six kickoff return touchdowns. In his first season at OS, Davis caught 100 passes for 1,420 yards and 30 touchdowns, and rushed for eight more scores.

The three-year AFL veteran led the team and placed fourth in the league with 2,589 all-purpose yards, the fourth highest total in team history. Twice in the year (3/28, 4/21) Davis tied a team record by scoring seven touchdowns in a single game. Davis also displayed his versatility earlier in the year by playing the first two games of the season as defensive specialist, breaking up three passes and making six tackles.

With Chicago, Davis is expected to compete for a spot on special teams as a kick returner and in the Bears secondary as a cornerback. Davis participated in his first organized team activity with the Bears on Thursday.
