San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 3, 2005) -- Mark Grieb threw for four touchdowns and Steve Warren ran for three more as the San Jose SaberCats won their fifth straight game to move into sole possession of first place in the Western Division with a 48-27 win over Arizona.

Grieb had another standout game completing 26 of 34 passes for 289 yards without an interception. He staked San Jose to an early 7-0 lead with a 29-yard strike to Rodney Wright two and half minutes into the second quarter. San Jose would not traril in the game.

Warren ran for 16 yards on seven carries and his three scores surpassed his season total of two entering the game. His 1-yard run late in the fourth supplied the final margin of victory for San Jose.

A week after allowing 75 points and over 400 yards of offense at Las Vegas, the SaberCats defense had a stellar performance holding Arizona to 210 total yards and allowing just three offensive touchdowns. The Rattlers scored for the first time with 2:28 left in the first half.

Quarterback Joe Germaine was sacked twice and tossed an interception while completing just 17 of 34 for 210 yards and three scores.

The game was a rematch of ArenaBowls XVI and XVIII, both San Jose wins, and also marked the return of former SaberCats coach Todd Shell to San Jose.
