San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they were assigned former Baltimore Ravens and USC defensive lineman Derek Simmons.
"We like what we have seen in Derek," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He has good size and we are looking forward to getting him in here so he can compete and push the guys we have in place to make us better as a unit."
Simmons (6-4, 305, USC) spent the 2012 preseason in camp with the Kansas City Command, and was with the Ravens of the National Football League in training camp prior to the 2011 season.
The Suisun, Calif. native attended the University of Southern California (USC), where he played from 2007-10, seeing action at defensive tackle in his freshman, junior and senior seasons, and at guard in his sophomore campaign. He recorded a total of 19 tackles, three of which were for a loss in 26 appearances defensively. Simmons appeared in ten games on the offensive line in 2008.
