San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have acquired linebacker Dexter Jackson in a trade with the Milwaukee Mustangs for future considerations. In a separate transaction, San Jose also acquired the third spot in the Arena Football League's claim order from the Orlando Predators in exchange for defensive lineman Shawn Lemon.
"Dexter is a good fit for us," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He spent last season in Milwaukee with defensive coordinator Cedric Walker and is familiar with our defense. We look forward to his arrival, as we continue to better our team."
Jackson (6-2, 280, Bethune-Cookman) has appeared in three games with the Mustangs thus far this season, posting three total tackles including a half sack. He made 17 appearances in 2011 with Milwaukee and recorded 26.5 total tackles, six sacks, an interception, forced one fumble and recovered two more. He reunites with former Mustangs teammates defensive backs Andre Jones and Brandon Brinkley in San Jose.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native attended Bethune-Cookman University, where he played from 2006-09, seeing action along the defensive line in his four seasons with the Wildcats. He was named first team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and received a Black College All-American honorable mention in his senior year in 2009, when he recorded 63 tackles and two-and-a-half sacks. The Wildcat also garnered second team All-MEAC honors in 2008, posting 57 tackles with four-and-a-half sacks.
