San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (June 25, 2004) - San Jose Fullback-Linebacker Matt Kinsinger was activated from the injured reserve list Friday and will be eligible to play in Sunday's ArenaBowl XVIII game as the SaberCats take on the Arizona Rattlers in a 1 p.m. (PST) Arena Football League championship game at Phoenix' America West Arena.
Kinsinger, a four-year veteran, missed the final two regular-season games and playoff games against Tampa Bay and Chicago with a cervical strain. The game against Philadelphia on May 22 was the first game the talented two-way player had missed this season.
"I knew going in that it would be four weeks and as a precaution, they kept me out a little longer than expected," the 27-year-old Kinsinger said. "I'm just happy to be here and to play one more game - ArenaBowl."
Kinsinger, in his third season with San Jose, was 2nd on the team in rushing with 77 yards. In 14 games, he carried the ball 32 times, seven of those times for touchdowns.
"I thank Fred (Stephens, strength coach) and Bart (Steve Bartlinski, head trainer) for working with me and get me healthy," the former Slippery Rock College standout said. "Steve got me back and Fred kept me focused."
In the only previous meeting against the Rattlers (May 9 at Arizona) this season, Kinsinger carried the ball three times and scored once. He also had one pass breakup, a fumble recovery and one tackle.
"I've felt ready to go, but you want to be cautious about any injury," he said.
To make room on the roster for Kinsinger, the SaberCats placed fullback-linebacker Keala Keanaaina on the injured reserve list with a knee injury.
