EDMONTON, AB, January 16, 2009 - The Edmonton Rush beat the Portland LumberJax 11-10 Friday night in front of 8,017 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. The Jax (1-3) were led by forward Ryan Powell (2 goals, 3 assists) and forward Cory Conway, who scored one goal and added a career-high five assists.

The Rush scored first, but the Jax quickly responded as Powell scored to even the game at one with 5:55 left in the first quarter. Edmonton would score two straight goals before Portland would tie the game at three at the end of the first quarter. Forward Peter Morgan (2 goals, 1 assist) scored off a pretty pass from Powell with 3:57 left and then scored off a penalty kill to knot the game at three after one.

Portland scored its third straight goal, which was the only goal of the second quarter, as transition player Tyler Codron (2 goals) went coast to coast with 13:21 left to give Portland the 4-3 lead at the half.

The Rush tied the game at four to open the half before forward Matt Brown (2 goals) scored off passes from forward Dan Stroup (2 assists) and Conway with 9:59 left in the third quarter to give Portland the 5-4 advantage.

The Rush would score before Portland regained the lead with 1:25 left as forward Peter Jacobs cut through the Rush defense and scored off a pass from Powell. However, Edmonton would tie the game at six before the third quarter ended.

Portland took its fourth lead of the game at 7-6 as Brown scored off a pass from Powell with 13:27 left. Once again Edmonton would tie the game as defenseman Scott Self scored 32 seconds later.

The teams would continue to trade goals as Edmonton scored and then Codron scored with 12:06 left in regulation to tie the game at eight. Defensemen Brodie Merrill (3 assists) and Dayne Michaud (2 assists) were credited with assists on the goal.

The Jax regained the lead with 10:22 left as Powell scored off passes from forward Derek Malawsky and Conway to make it 9-8.

Edmonton scored again, tying the game as forward Dan Teat scored his fourth goal of the game.

Once again, Portland responded as Conway scored with 5:44 left before Edmonton tied the game for the ninth time at 10.

An Edmonton goal by Ryan McNish would be the game winner as the Rush won 11-10.

Goalie Matt Disher stopped 40 of the 51 shots he faced.

The Jax and Rush meet again on Friday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden Arena.
