Chicago Rush News Release

"Rush to Read," the reading incentive program developed by the Chicago Rush, returns next week for its sixth year with more than 200 Chicagoland schools and 75,000 students participating, the team announced today.

To help kick off the 2006-2007 program, Rush head coach Mike Hohensee along with players Etu Molden and Todd Howard, will visit Canton Middle School in Streamwood on Thursday, October 5, to discuss the importance of reading with the students and their teachers.

"We are excited about the return of the 'Rush to Read' program and look forward to another successful year," said Rush president/general manager Mike Polisky. "Over the past five years, thousands of Chicagoland students have been encouraged to do extra reading thanks to the program, and we hope the number of students who fall in love with reading continues to skyrocket as the program continues."

The "Rush to Read" program asks third through eighth graders to read one extra book per month for four months and write a report on each. Each student who completes the program earns complimentary tickets to a 2007 Rush regular season home game.

In addition, each student receives a Chicago Rush bookmark and each participating classroom receives posters to help track students' progress.

Last year, nearly 10,000 Chicagoland students completed the program and earned the opportunity to see the Rush play at Allstate Arena.
