Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - Late yesterday afternoon the Grand Rapids Rampage hauled in their second big catch of the Arena Football League free agent signing period, signing wide receiver Rob Mager (Seymour, Ind.) to a two-year contract. Mager lit up arenafootball2 last year with the Louisville Fire and was named the league's Schutt Offensive Player of the Year.

"He's a very fast and gifted receiver," said Rampage offensive and special teams coordinator Michael Baker. "He's got outstanding leaping ability that allowed him to make an abundance of catches last year in the af2. [Head Coach Sparky] McEwen met him at the af2 championship down in Puerto Rico and was impressed."

"I'm very excited to move on to the AFL and the Rampage," said Mager. "I really loved the coaching staff. They blew me away with their passion for the game, and they'll be able to help me make the transition to the next level quickly."

Mager's 2006 af2 numbers were jaw-dropping, as he helped lift the Fire to a 9-7 record and a playoff berth. The 6-3, 205 pound receiver caught 143 passes for 1,918 yards during the regular season, leading the league. His 54 touchdown receptions also led the league and tied an af2 record set by Donovan Morgan.

"I would love to have a season like I did last year with Louisville," said Mager. "It would be great to set all kinds of records here with the Rampage too, but I need to take it one step at a time and be the best I can be."

A graduate of the University of Indianapolis, Mager finished his career with the Greyhounds ranked fifth in school history with 116 receptions and ninth in receiving yards with 1,676. In his senior year, Mager was an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Grand Rapids has been active since the beginning of the AFL's free agent signing period Monday (Oct. 2), adding to the team's skill at the wide receiver position. Yesterday, the Rampage also signed Carlton Brewster (Grand Rapids, Mich.), to a two-year deal.
