
Rush Outdistance Wings 15-10

A 5-0 first-half run for the Saskatchewan Rush put a sufficient amount of distance between themselves and the Philadelphia Wings to work out a 15-10 win at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night. Mark Matthews set up eight of his team's 15 goals on the night to lead the way for Saskatchewan, which went on to hold the Wings at arm's distance for the final 42 minutes.
A see-saw first quarter saw the Rush open the scoring in the game's first minute, but the Wings answered iwth goals from Brett Hickey and Kiel Matisz to take a 2-1 lead. After another Rush goal, Blaze Riorden restored the one goal lead at 3-2 with 2:35 left in the first quarter.
Saskatchewan started its run 31 seconds later, scoring the game's next five goals over the span of 5:09 of game time to take a 7-3 lead with 3:05gone in the second quarter. The see-saw format returned from there, but the Wings were never able to close any closer than two goals the rest of the way. Back-to-back tallies by Stef Charbonneau were answered by three Rush goals; although the Wings then scored four of the game's next five tallies to close within 11-9 just 56 seconds into the fourth quarter, the Rush turned the tables by scoring four of the game's final five goals.
Charbonneau. Riorden, Hickey and Josh Currier all had two goals apiece, while Kevin Crowley and Matisz each had one. Crowley added three assists and Riorden chipped in two for four-point nights.
Zach Higgins started for the Wings and made seven saves on 14 shots in 18:05 before stepping aside for Brandon Miller, who stopped 15 of 22 he saw in 41:54 of action, his first extended look for the Wings this season.
The Wings head back on the road next weekend when they visit the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, February 29.
