Rush Kick off Road Trip with 4-3 Shootout Win in Wichita

(Rapid City, SD) - On Tuesday night, the Rapid City Rush began their season-long eight game road trip with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Wichita Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena. Les Reaney scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner while Tim Boron made 28 saves, moving to 5-0-0 on the season.

The Thunder outshot the Rush 16-9 in the opening period and earned a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. While on a 5-on-3, Matt Robinson poked home a rebound from the top of the crease for his team-leading 25th goal of the season.

Rapid City's leading scorer answered back 1:12 into the second period, evening the score at 1-1. Konrad Reeder broke into the offensive zone and slid a pass to the high slot for a wide-open Ryan Menei who fired a wrist shot to the top-right corner. Menei would later return the favor, assisting on Reeder's goal at 6:31 of the period, giving the Rush a 2-1 lead. The lead lasted all of 27 seconds as Robinson would add to his team lead, firing home a pass from AJ Gale to make it 2-2 heading into the final period.

Rapid City regained the lead with a powerplay goal 6:26 into the third period. Jamie Carroll as able to slid a puck to the goal mouth that ricocheted off of Les Reaney and in for the 3-2 lead. The Thunder were quick to respond, potting a goal less than a minute and a half later. Steve Kaunisto evened the score on a play assisted by Brent Cullaton and Dustin Donaghy.

With neither team finding the game-winner in overtime, the two teams headed to a shootout. The shootout lasted five rounds with Vladimir Hartinger, Riley Weselowski and Les Reaney all lighting the lamp for Rapid City. On the other side, Matt Robinson and Aaron Davis scored before Lance Gallbraith was stopped by Tim Boron, securing the 4-2 win for the Rush.
