January 24, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release
January 24, 2003 â The Chicago Rush ended training camp today, finalizing its 24-man roster for the 2003 Arena Football League season by waiving 10 players.
The 2003 Rush roster is composed of 18 AFL veterans and six rookies, and features 13 players returning from the 2002 Central Division championship squad. Two of the rookies, Levelle Brown and Salem Simon, are familiar with the Chicago area, having played their college football at Northwestern University.
To get down to the AFL roster limit, the Rush waived quarterback Ken Mastrole, linemen Curt Lessman, Ben Crosland and Sean Powell, defensive specialist Donald Malloy, FB/LB Kevin Clemens, WR/LB Tywan Mitchell and WR/DBs Chonn Lacey, Anthony Griffin and Halakilangi Muagututia.
"This was one of the toughest years to cut down to 24," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "The decisions came down to how a few guys played in our two scrimmages. Overall, I am very happy with the roster. We didn't lose any starters from last year and we have brought in some new talent that fits in well with our program.
The roster breakdown by position follows (returning players in bold):
Kicker (1) â Keith Gispert
Quarterback (3) â Billy Dicken, Chad Salisbury, Brian Ah Yat
Offensive Specialist (1) â Antonio Chatman
FB/LB (3) â Jamie McGourty, Bob McMillen, Levelle Brown
WR/DB (3) â Dameon Porter, Cornelius Bonner, Marvin Taylor
WR/LB (3) â Anthony Ladd, Lindsay Fleshman, Robert Kilow
Defensive Specialists (2) â Cedric Walker, Anthony Derricks
Linemen (8) â James Baron, John Moyer, Tony Bowick, Marcus McKenzie, Riley Kleinhesselink, Frank Moore, Jerry Montgomery, Salem Simon
