Runners Win Streak Snapped At Six
January 2, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
The Topeka RoadRunners win streak of six games in a row came to an end on Friday night as they were defeated by the Wenatchee Wild 4-2 at Landon Arena.
Jasen Fernsler gave Topeka a 1-0 lead on a power play goal at 4:52 of the first period, set up beautifully by Sly Sutter and Sam Rennaker. Topeka had dominated the majority of the period but Wenatchee pounced late in the frame, with Colin Burston scoring a power play goal at 18:43, and Jake Ahlgren adding a go ahead goal 18 seconds later for a 2-1 Wenatchee advantage. The second period was a scoreless one, and the 'Runners found themselves in unfamiliar territory, trailing after two periods, something they'd only experienced 4 times in their first 34 games.
Daniel Rzavsky tied the game with a short-handed goal at 3:34 and Topeka kept some consistent pressure, but a miscommunication and turnover behind the net allowed Troy Conzo to put the Wild back on top, 3-2. Ahlgren would add an empty netter to seal the Wild victory, their first over Topeka in 5 games this season.
Topeka (25-7-3) and Wenatchee (13-15-6) meet one more time Saturday night at 7:05 in our first ever "Star Wars Night!" The first 500 fans through the doors will receive a set of Star Wars Thunder Sticks courtesy of The Spectacle. The Runners and Wild will be wearing Star Wars themed jerseys during the game (Runners will be Jedi, Wild will be Stormtroopers). The Jedi jerseys will be auctioned off after the game and the Stormtrooper jerseys will be auctioned off on-line at a later date. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK.
