Abilene Ruff Riders News Release
ABILENE, TX. : The Abilene Ruff Riders announced on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 that Barney Welch III is no longer the General Manager of the Abilene Ruff Riders. Welch was named General Manager of the Ruff Riders back on October 28, 2008 and became a key factor in the Ruff Riders inaugural season as part of the Abilene community. The Ruff Riders finish the 2009 regular season with a 8-6 regular season record but fell in the first round of the IFL post-season to the San Angelo Stampede Express.
The decision was made following a mutual agreement with the team owners of Allegiance Pro Sports Inc. There have been no further announcements in regards to a replacement for the position and no further comments were made from the owners in regards to the decision made early morning on Tuesday, July 28.
Welch has registered more than 14 years of sales experience including sports marketing and ticket sales. Welch has previously served as Director of Business Operations for the Odessa Roughnecks and as General Manager for the CenTex Barracudas of the former Intense Football League in 2008. His contributions to the success of both organizations have led to the Franchise of the Year Award in 2004 & 2006, and Best Game Operations Award in 2007 & 2008 in the former Intense Football League.
