Mobile Revelers News Release
MOBILE, Ala., AUGUST 26, 2002 â Rudy Bourg, a former executive in minor league hockey, has been named Team President for Mobile's National Basketball Development League team, it was announced today by NBDL President Phil Evans.
"The NBDL is offering me a chance to combine my experience in marketing, sales, business planning and staff development as we move forward in year two of the league," said Bourg. "I am very excited about getting established in the Mobile community, getting involved and putting down roots."
As team president, Bourg will be responsible for overseeing all of the club's operations including sponsorship and ticket sales, business affairs, human resources, community relations, marketing, promotions and communications.
"We are very confident in Rudy's ability to come in and hit the ground running in Mobile," Evans said. "His experience in minor league sports and proven ability to sell sponsorships and tickets will lead to the Revelers' continued growth."
Bourg's previous experience in minor league sports comes from holding various positions with the Louisiana Ice Gators of the East Coast Hockey League, most recently as Vice President of Business Operations/Sales and Promotions. For the last two years he has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hockey franchise and served on the ECHL Board of Governors.
From 1997-2001, Bourg served as the Assistant General Manager for the Ice Gators and was the Director of Marketing from 1995-97. He has extensive experience in designing and coordinating team sales strategies for sponsorships and tickets, as well as marketing strategies and budget planning and implementation.
Bourg will begin his duties with the Revelers immediately, relocating to Mobile with his wife Michelle and sons MacKenzie, 9, and Peyton, 7.
The Revelers, along with the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.) will compete in a 50-game regular season schedule that tips off on Nov. 15 and runs through March, followed by playoffs.
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eight NBDL players and two head coaches have been called up to the NBA since the beginning of the NBDL's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
