Royer Solid as Raging Tide Fall in Home Opener, 5-0

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The North Shore Navigators defeated the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide Thursday night. Pitcher Joey Royer went five innings giving up two hits with one earned run and three strikeouts.

The Navigators got on the board with one run in the top of the 3rd on a double steal attempt by Alex Markakis and Eridani Dume that resulted in an error for the Tide. Royer would give up his only earned run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field by Markakis in the 4th inning. The Navs would strike again in the 9th putting up two runs on three hits.

Right fielder Sam Balzano highlighted the Raging Tide offense going 2-3 with two hits, a steal, and a base on balls. The Tide's only other hit came in the 1st inning with a single by Jason Vosler which advanced Balzano to third, but were unable to capitalize.

Nick Whittaker pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Old Orchard Beach giving up only one hit.

The Tide return to action tomorrow on the road against the 2011 FCBL champions the Nashua Silver Knights at 7:05pm. The team will return home Sunday against the Brockton Rox for Saco Little League Day and magnetic schedule giveaway to the first 200 fans, game time scheduled for 1pm.
