Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2010-11 regular season schedule. The 72-game schedule opens at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey on Saturday, October 16, 2010 against the Trenton Devils and concludes on Saturday, April 2, 2011, when the Royals will face the Devils at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. After starting the season with two consecutive games in Trenton, the Royals return to the Sovereign Center for the tenth home opener in team history when the arch rival Elmira Jackals visit Reading on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm). The next day, Sunday, October 24 (5:05 pm), the Royals and Jackals will play the second of what will be eight total match-ups at the Sovereign Center this year. The Royals schedule is available on the team's website at http://www.royalshockey.com/tickets/201011Schedule.asp.

The Royals regular season schedule includes match-ups against all ten opponents in the American Conference, including the yet-to-be-named representative from Greenville, South Carolina, who will visit the Sovereign Center for back-to-back games on Friday, January 28, and Saturday, January 29, 2011. As has been the case over the past couple of seasons, the Royals face off against Elmira and Trenton more than any of the other teams in the Conference-playing the Jackals a total of sixteen times and fifteen against the Devils during the regular season. Next on that list for Reading would be the Wheeling Nailers, who the Royals play twelve times this year, seven of which will be on the road-and two of those games will be played at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in February.

Although eight of the Royals' first ten games are on the road, Reading then turns around and plays eleven of the next thirteen (from November 13 through December 12) at the Sovereign Center. That stretch includes a six game home stand, during which the defending Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones make their only regular season appearances at the Sovereign Center with games on Wednesday, November 24 and Friday, November 26. The Royals' longest home stand of the season comes late in the year, when the team plays seven consecutive at the Sovereign Center from March 5 through March 19, 2011. After that stint at home, the Royals head out on a late-March five game road trip, which includes the lone trip of the season to Greenville, South Carolina, and three games in Gwinnett, Georgia, against the Gladiators.

Fifty-five of the Royals seventy-two regular season games fall on weekend dates with twenty-two Saturdays (eleven of which are at home) leading the way in that category. The Royals also play a team record eighteen games on Sunday this year-nine at home and nine on the road. Game times at the Sovereign Center will remain the same this season with the opening face-off for Tuesday through Saturday games dropping at 7:05 pm and Sunday games starting at 5:05 pm. The lone exceptions to this will be on Saturday, December 11, when Reading will take on the South Carolina Stingrays at the Sovereign Center at 1:05 pm; and Sunday, February 27, 2011 when the Royals will face the Gwinnett Gladiators starting at 4:05 pm. Also, the Royals will host their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday matinee game on Monday, January 17, 2011 (against the Trenton Devils) starting at 1:05 pm.
