Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros lost to the Burlington Royals on Saturday night by a score of 3-1 in ten innings. It was the second consecutive game between the Astros and Royals that went to extra innings, and it ended in the same fashion, with the Astros losing by two runs. Following the loss, the Astros record drops to 16-14 on the season, but they still remain in first place in the Appalachian League West division.

While Saturday night's contest did not highlight copious amounts of offense from the Astros' side of the plate, Greeneville's pitching staff put on a jaw-dropping performance. Devonte German got the start for the Astros and, apart from allowing a run to score in the first inning, silenced the Royals' bats through his four innings of work. German, who hadn't allowed a run to score since July 10th against the Johnson City Cardinals, gave up only three hits while striking out one.

Erasmo Pinales relieved German on the mound in the fifth inning and pitched four innings himself, striking out a season high seven batters without allowing a single run to score. Pinales now leads the team in innings pitched (25.1) and in strikeouts (26).

The Astros scored their lone run of the game with their backs up against the wall in the bottom of the ninth inning. Down 1-0, Connor Goedert ripped a double into left field to start off the inning for his tenth two-bagger of the year. Goedert, who owns a .533 slugging percentage, now stands in fourth place in Appalachian League in doubles. With one out, Justin Garcia pinch hit for Gabriel Bracamonte and lined a single into right field to score Goedert and tie up the game.

However, with Joselo Pinales on the mound, Burlington would bounce back in the top of the tenth by smacking five consecutive singles and scoring two runs. The Astros were unable to retaliate in their half of the inning and went on to lose the game 3-1.

The Astros will look to avoid a sweep at home Sunday afternoon as they take on the Burlington Royals at 2:00 PM. Gates will open at 1:00 PM. The Astros are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Houston Astros. For more information, visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
