DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA-Sportsticker, has named Brockton Rox DH Palmer Karr and LHP Craig Anderson as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
During the week in eight games, Karr batted .385 with five home runs and nine RBI. He scored seven runs and collected 10 hits to go along with a .962 slugging percentage. The Homewood, AL native homered in five consecutive games this past week and leads the league in home runs with nine. Karr is batting .318 this season with 18 RBI, a .626 slugging percentage (2nd in Can-Am) and 15 extra base hits (T-1st in Can-Am).
Karr is currently in his fifth season of professional baseball, all in the independent leagues. He spent the 2005 and the start of the 2006 season with Pensacola. The rest of the 2006 season Karr split time with Fort Worth and Laredo. The last two seasons he was with Alexandria of the United League.
Anderson was very sharp in two starts this past week. The Aussie had one complete game and went 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA. In 17 2/3 innings pitched, Anderson allowed one earned run on 16 hits with three walks while fanning 11 batters. The southpaw is currently 4-1 on the year with a 1.99 ERA. He leads the Can-Am in ERA and is tied for first in wins.
The 28-year-old was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Seattle Mariners in March of 1999. Anderson spent six seasons with the Mariners before his first stint with Brockton in 2005. The last three seasons Anderson has pitched in the Baltimore Orioles organization.
