
Rox Sign Fairfield Duo

Brockton, Mass. - The Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) added two more pitchers to their 2012 roster, including Fairfield University junior right-hander Kyle Capaldo (Thomaston, CT). In addition to Capaldo, the Rox signed Fairfield freshman right-hander Chris Kalica (Albany, NY).
Capaldo is in the midst of closing out his junior season with the Division I Fairfield Stags of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). As of May 16, the Thomaston, Conn. native has been one of Fairfield's top relief pitchers, owning a 2.73 ERA and a team-high three saves in 17 appearances. The right-hander is 2-0 in 26.1 innings of work to go along with 23 strikeouts and just six walks.
After missing the entire 2010 season due to injury, Capaldo bounced back in 2011 with a stellar sophomore campaign. He made 11 appearances out of the bullpen, sporting a 3-3 record and one save to go along with a 3.98 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 20.1 innings of work. Capaldo earned four varsity letters in baseball while at Thomaston High School, helping the Bears to a Class "S" State Championship, as well as a Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Championship during that time. A two-time Berkshire League All-Star and Most Valuable Pitcher, Capaldo earned All-State honors after posting a 9-0 record with a 0.21 ERA and 120 strikeouts as a senior captain.
As of May 16, Kalica has appeared in 17 games for Fairfield as a freshman, starting four of them. The Albany, N.Y. native owns a 5.79 ERA and a 0-0 record in 32.2 innings to go along with 19 strikeouts. The right-hander was a three year letter-winner at Colonie Central High School, where he earned the Times Union Athlete of the Year award and was also named a two-time Times Union All-Area First Team selection. During his final season with the Garnet Raiders, Kalica finished with five homers, 30 RBI, and a .403 batting average at the plate, while going 8-0 on the mound with a 1.83 ERA and 68 strikeouts. He was picked as Colonie's Most Valuable Pitcherin 2009, 2010, and 2011, while helping his team to a Suburban Council Championship during his junior and senior seasons.
