Brockton, Mass. - On Wednesday, July 25, t he Brockton Rox will host "Christmas in July" to kick off the Annual City of Champions Toy Drive - a collaboration between Catholic Charities South, t he Brockton Rox, The Shaw's Center and The Office of Mayor Linda M. Balzotti.
Patrons who bring a new and unwrapped gift for a child aged between newborn and 13 will receive free admission to Wednesday's game between the Brockton Rox and the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, which begins at 7:05 p.m.
"We have built a strong partnership over the last two years coordinating the City of Champions Toy Drive with Catholic Charities and the Brockton Rox," said Mayor Linda M. Balzotti. "This is a fun way to remind people that we are working to bring many local families a brighter holiday season."
The City of Champions Holiday Toy Distribution's goal is to provide parents and caregivers an opportunity to select gifts specific to their children that they present during their particular family holiday celebrations.
Michael Canina, p resident of t he Brockton Rox and The Shaw's Center added: "We can't thank Catholic Charities enough for their efforts in helping the kids of our city. We know that every year we see more and more kids with less and less opportunities and without this collaboration it wouldn't happen."
HarborOne Credit Union has pledged their support of The Toy Drive by donating two new youth bicycles to be given away during the game. "We are proud to sponsor this event as part of our continued commitment to the greater Brockton community, " stated Leo MacNeil, Sen ior Vice President of Community.
As part of "Christmas in July", the entire ballpark will be covered in Christmas decor, while there will be tons of fun, winter-themed between-inning promotions, and of course, Santa Claus will be in attendance. The Rox will also be holding an "Ugly Sweater Competition", as all fans that show up wearing their ugliest Christmas sweaters get into the game for free as well.
