Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies have fortified their attack with the addition of veteran forward Carlos Preciado, the club announced Tuesday, pending ITC clearance. Preciado is signed through the 2016 season, with a club option for the 2017 season. Per club and league policy, no further contract details were disclosed.
Preciado, a 31-year old Colombian, arrives in Tampa Bay with a sterling record on his home continent.
Preciado has played for some of the biggest teams in Colombia, including América de Cali and Millonarios, as well as Peru's most popular club, Alianza Lima last year. He arrives with experience in both the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, the two biggest club competitions in South America.
"Carlos is quick and strong," Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. "Those are the first things our fans will notice about him and he's a player they'll enjoy getting to watch. He makes good runs in behind defenders to get himself into good positions."
In 2014, Preciado scored 10 league goals for Peru's Leî"n de Huánuco before securing a move to Alianza Lima. While in the capital city, Preciado scored eight league goals. He most recently played for Qatar's Al Sailiya, where he scored four goals in 10 games before signing with Tampa Bay.
"Carlos comes here with experience playing for big clubs in South America," Campbell said. "His experience in a competition like the Copa Libertadores will be invaluable for some of our players to learn from. He knows his way around the game and it's always great to have players like that in the dressing room to share their experiences."
The Rowdies host the first-place New York Cosmos at home this Saturday, July 23 in a critical early Fall Season showdown. For tickets, call (727) 222-2000 or click here .
