Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla - The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced today that the club has acquired 2022 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year Jordan Farr via transfer from San Antonio FC, pending league and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of the transfer were undisclosed.
"We're delighted to bring Jordan on board in Tampa Bay," said Rowdies Head Coach Robbie Neilson. "As a recent league champion, he adds valuable experience and a winning mentality to our roster. His skills on the field are obvious to everyone around the league, but we also believe his character as a teammate will make him a tremendous addition in our locker room."
Farr departs San Antonio with 26 shutouts through 68 appearances across all competitions for the club. The 29-year-old emerged as one of the league's top keepers during a career-best year in 2022. As San Antonio's starter in 2022, Farr equaled the league's single-season shutout record of 15 clean sheets to help his side earn the Players' Shield. He was integral for San Antonio in the playoffs as well, recording two shutouts as the club went on to claim victory over Louisville City FC in the USL Championship Final.
"My one message to Rowdies fans would be I'm ready to give all of myself to the community, the organization, and the team," said Farr. "My greatest hope is to bring championship success. I feel like we've been close the past few years and I'm excited to hopefully be a factor that could push us over that threshold. I think it's possible to win the Players' Shield and the USL Championship playoffs with the group we have. I'm extremely excited to get out there and start working with the boys."
A native of Salem, Oregon, Farr played collegiate soccer in his hometown at Corban University while also gaining experience with the Charlotte Eagles and Portland Timbers U-23s in USL League Two between the college seasons.
In 2018, Farr signed his first professional contract with Indy Eleven, where he made 34 league appearances over four seasons in the Circle City. After taking hold of the starting spot for Indy during the 2021 regular season, Farr was acquired by San Antonio on an emergency loan for the playoffs. With Farr in net, San Antonio reached the Western Conference Final before falling to Orange County SC in penalties.
"Integrating myself not only with the team but also the fanbase and the community is what I'm all about as a player," said Farr. "On the field I like to think I'm an athletic guy that makes big saves and can be consistent and reliable. I want to show people my quality but at the same time I want to be who I am. I'm excited to show the Rowdies fanbase exactly who that is. I feel this is a place I can be 100 percent myself. I'm really excited for that."
Players are set to report for the start of the Rowdies preseason camp on January 29 as they prepare for the kickoff of the 2024 season. The Rowdies open the regular season at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday, March 16 versus San Antonio.
