Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The Green Bay Gamblers scored three third period goals on the way to a 4-2 opening night win over the RoughRiders Saturday.

The Riders held a 2-1 lead entering the third period and went on a five minute power play just four seconds in when Green Bay's Shea Walters was issued a major penalty for slashing. However, it was the Gamblers who would tie the score while down a man when Derrick LaPoint beat Rider goaltender Pat McGann on a breakaway.

Green Bay's special teams delivered again when Sergio Somma tipped in the power play tie breaker at 17:26 of the third period.

Steve Silva scored his second goal of the game into an empty net to put the Riders away with just 43 seconds remaining.

It was Silva who started the scoring 3:55 into the first period. He snapped the puck home from the slot to give the Gamblers what would prove to be a short lived 1-0 lead.

The Riders quickly bounced back to even the score when Jacob Cepis rifled the puck just inside the goal post from the left wing circle at 5:11 of the opening frame.

Cedar Rapids was on the power play when David Boehm swept the puck in from the slot to give the Riders a 2-1 lead with just under two and a half minutes left in the first.

The Riders would be unable to solve Green Bay goaltender Adam Avramenko (37 saves) the rest of the way, setting the stage for the Gamblers' third period outburst.
