ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks are absolutely thrilled to announce the signing of Quarterback Dennis Gile, 26, for the 2008 season. Gile (6'2", 200 lbs.) is a veteran from several professional football leagues including the NFL, CFL, the Arena Football League and Arena Football League 2. Dennis is a native of Phoenix, Arizona and in 2005 and 2006 spent time with the Arizona Rattlers and the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League.
Gile was a 2 year starter at Central Missouri State from 2001 to 2002 and compiled incredible numbers for the Mules program. During the '01 and '02 seasons Gile combined to throw for 4,741 yards and 40 touchdowns. He broke the pass efficiency record with a rating of 214. Dennis also ran for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns in those two seasons leading Central Missouri State to their best combined record in school history at 20-4.
After his outstanding college career Gile signed on as a free agent with the New England Patriots in 2003. Following his release in training camp with the Patriots, Gile went on to play two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in 2003 and 2004.
"No matter what level you are playing on you have to have an experienced trigger man in order to win games. Dennis comes to Odessa as a guy who has a proven track record. He has had a shot in the NFL, he has spent a quality amount of time in the CFL and most importantly he has game experience in the Arena Football League. This season, I felt like it would be important for us to sign a quarterback who has had true game experience at the highest level of arena/indoor football. That experience will give us a player who truely has an understanding of this game. He will understand the throws and decisions that he will have to make in order for us to be successful because he has done it before at the highest level of this game. He has a great quarterback demeanor and is a student of this game. I am excited about working with him. " stated Head Coach Chris Williams.
