Roughnecks Send Six to All-Star Game in Lake Charles

ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks have announced that six players have been selected to the 2008 IFL All-Star game in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The six selected players that will represent Odessa are QB Dennis Gile, FB DeWayne Hogan, OL Peter Fields, DL Rodney Allen, WR Jimmy Conner, and WR Don Robinson. The selected Roughnecks players will be on the West All-Stars roster as the game is schedule for Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

QB Dennis Gile had a slow start to the ‘08 season but came back strong in the second half of the schedule to grab a spot in the All-Star game along side CenTex QB James Brown. Gile threw for 2,027 yards in the air and registered 47 total touchdowns, 41 passing. FB DeWayne Hogan replaces injured Alaska FB Thomas Ford in the All-Star game. Hogan led Odessa with 151 yards rushing and 12 rushing touchdowns.

6'10", 340 lbs. OL Peter Fields was quite a story for the Roughnecks as he dominated on the offensive line for Odessa in 2008. A former boxer and rugby player, Fields came to Odessa from European National and supplied protection for Gile all season long. DE Rodney Allen finished 7th on the team in total tackles with 23.5, however 11.5 of those were tackles for loss. Allen was also 2nd on the Roughnecks roster with 7.0 sacks.

WR Jimmy Conner had one of the most productive seasons of any player in 2008. Conner led Odessa with 62 receptions and finished 2nd with 810 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. Conner dominated on kick returns and collected 1,501 return yards and 1 TD in 2008. Conner led the IFL in averaging 180.5 all-purpose yards a game. WR Don Robinson was added to the All-Star game as a reserve. Robinson led Odessa with 907 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns despite missing several games due to injury.
