ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks won their second straight and got back to .500 at 2-2 with a 81-62 victory over the CenTex Barracudas on Saturday, April 12, 2008. There were many moments where both squads could have easily pulled away with the win but the Roughnecks defense came up with huge turning-point plays to help put the game out of reach.

In the first quarter the Roughnecks got off to a fast start as QB Dennis Gile returned to the starting lineup and hooked up with WR Torrey Day for a 14 yard touchdown pass to grab the early lead. CenTex QB Bart Gloyd had a good start as well finding WR Kelvin Irving for a 31 yard touchdown strike to take a 7-6 lead. The game progressively went back and forth until the end of the first half when the Roughnecks defense made its mark. On a QB Bart Gloyd fumble, DL Michael Moore recovered the ball and in the process of falling down he pitched to FB/DL Steven Kennedy who returned it 20 yards for the touchdown and a 40-26 lead. On the next Barracudas possession, DB Cameron Rodgers intercepted Gloyd and returned it 28 yards for another Roughnecks defensive touchdown, and a 47-26 halftime lead.

The second half did not start out how the Roughnecks planned. After two QB Dennis Gile fumbled snaps, the Barracudas capitalized with a 4 yard touchdown pass from Gloyd to Frank Hill and a 14 yard touchdown strike from Gloyd to once again Kelvin Irving to close the deficit at 54-46 Odessa.

Then with 7:02 remaining in the 4th quarter, WR Reggie Smith caught a great 23 yard touchdown pass from Bart Gloyd to make it a 68-60 Roughnecks lead. However on the next Roughnecks drive, FB Dwayne Hogan fumbled a pitch from Dennis Gile and had to retrieve the ball back in the end zone where he was down for a safety making it 68-62. But on the next play for the Barracudas following the kickoff that set them back inside their own 5 yard line, Bart Gloyd was hit from behind by DL Ahmad Childress and LB Kyle Grove recovered a fumble for a Roughnecks game-clinching score.

QB Dennis Gile finished 15-for-22 for 254 yards passing, 5 TD, and 2 Interceptions. WR Don Robinson finished with 4 catches, 102 yards and 1 TD, WR Jimmy Conner had 5 receptions for 88 yards and 2 total TD and Torrey Day had 5 catches for 64 yards and 2 total TD. For CenTex, QB Bart Gloyd went 19-for-39 for 256 yards and 8 TD. WR Reggie Smith had a break out performance catching 6 balls for 101 yards and 2 TD. WR Kelvin Irving also caught 5 passes for 76 yards and collected 3 TD. The Roughnecks remain home to face the Frisco Thunder (4-2) on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 7:11 p.m. as the CenTex Barracudas travel to Louisiana to face the Swashbucklers (4-0) at 7:05 p.m.
