Roughnecks Announce Additions

West Texas Roughnecks News Release


ODESSA, TX: "Season ticket holders will be given free admission to all away games in 2012" Owner Dale Morris proclaims as the Roughnecks and the Lone Star Football League are making it clear that this is family entertainment at an economical price. All media representatives had the opportunity to interview and question West Texas team Owner/GM Dale Morris and Head Coach Brian Brents regarding the upcoming 2012 season.

 Coach Brents offered "We are excited about the new direction of this football team and its coaching staff" after announcing two more coaches and three new skilled players.

 

 

Arick Heredia

Co Offensive Coordinator / WR Coach

 

 

            A native of Crane, Arick brings 12 years of football coaching experience to the West Texas Roughnecks.  Arick has made coaching stops at Crane, Bay City, and is currently the Assistant Head Coach at Kermit.  Arick graduated from Crane High School in 1995 and Angelo State University in 2000.  Arick and his wife Brenna have two children, Kobe and Hope.

 

 

 

 

Boe Smith

Co Offense Coordinator & Offensive Line Coach

 

            Offensive Line Coach Boe Smith returns to the Roughnecks Coaching Staff for his second season with the organization.  Smith joined the Roughnecks Coaching Staff during mid-season of 2011 and helped develop the offensive line into a significant asset for the Roughnecks offensive unit as the team reached the post-season following a 10-4 regular season. 

 

   

 

Kevin Brown Jr.

College: Lincoln University of Missouri

Height: 6'2"  Weight: 185   Position: QB/WR/FS/SS/CB     Jersey:

 

"Kevin is a versatile player who has the athletic ability to play all skill-sets" stated Dale Morris Owner/GM. In college Brown made First Team All conference and was ranked 11th in the nation amongst Punt Returners. Kevin Brown Jr. played all 30 games in college and continued that same commitment at Saginaw Sting in the Ultimate Football League in the 2011 season. Kevin finished all 15 games he started and was a vital part of the Sting's Championship Run.

 

 

Paul Stephens

College: Central Missouri / Arkansas State  

Height: 5'9 Weight: 170 Position: DB/PR/KR Jersey: # 32

 

 

Paul   is a physical DB that is very athletic. He takes many receivers out of the play immediately after the snap with a great jam at the snap of the ball. He has great jam that can knock the receiver off balance immediately and take him out of the play. Paul has quick feet in his backpedal and shows excellent hip flexors to turn and run with any receiver. Paul has had the experience of playing every position in the secondary that makes him very knowledgeable. Paul is also a skilled punt and kick returner. Paul is a speedy returner that can change games. Due to medical and NCAA rules Paul finished his college eligibility at Central Missouri where he was valuable player and leader of the 2010 Mules football team.

 

Central Missouri: Played fall 2010 at Central Missouri where he recorded 4 int's for 113 yds 2 tds, Paul also recorded 73 tackles 50 solo 6.5 tfl 9 pbu's 1ff 1 blocked kick.... also had 10 kick returns for 260 with a long of 78.

 

A rkansas State: Played the late 2008 season at CB for one season at ASU... Recorded eight unassisted tackles and two assisted, while also intercepting a pass against Texas Southern... Posted a season-high three tackles against Louisiana-Monroe... Returned 10 kickoffs for 266 yards, including a long of 57 yards against North Texas.

Blinn Junior College: Played at Blinn Junior College in Texas as a sophomore where he led the team with 8 interceptions, second in tackles with 55, and had 4 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recovery's, earning First-Team All-Conference and All-Region, as well as Second-team All-American honors.

 

Rochester Community College: was Second Team All American...with 60 plus tackles and 12 interceptions

High School: Played at Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas... Earned first-team all-district and all-region as a senior at corner for Head Coach: Kevin O'Keefe ... also lettered three years for the track team. Personal: General studies major... born April 23, 1987... son of Randall and Lisa Hammond

 

 

 

Mark Gutierrez -Durant

College: Harding University  

Height: 6'3"   Weight: 255   Position: DE    Jersey:

 

Mark has the high motor and the hungry pursuit of a true Defensive End totaling 19 tackles 6.5 sacks and 2 FF in his Senior year at Harding University.
