Plainview, NY; November 18, 2005 - Five teams from the Long Island Rough Riders Super Y- League program (SYL), recently recognized as one of the top youth programs in North America, have arrived in Tampa, Florida to contend for one of the most coveted accolades in the world of youth soccer: the Super Y-League North American Championship. Also, in a recent SYL announcement, the Rough Riders Youth organization was recognized nationally in three categories: Top Overall Clubs, Top Boys Teams, and Top Girls Teams.
The criteria used to determine the rankings were based on winning percentage (70%) and club administration (30%). In the Top Overall Clubs category, the New York Rough Riders were ranked ninth with a score of 64.5, while the Long Island Rough Riders came in eleventh with a score of 63.2. In the Top Boys Teams category, the New York Rough Riders were ranked in fourteenth place among 85 qualified teams, earning a score of 65.3. Two of the Top Girls Teams were recognized, with the Long Island Rough Riders placing second out of 57 teams with a score of 80.0 and New York Rough Riders earning ninth place with a score of 63.2.
The Rough Riders will look to continue that winning tradition at the Super Y-League North American Championships this weekend when five Rough Riders youth squads compete as part of a 128-team contingent heading to Tampa. The New York Rough Riders have sent their boys U-13, U-15, U-17. The Long Island Rough Riders dispatched their girls U-15 and boys U-16 squads. Competition begins today at Ed Radice Sports Complex on the campus of the University of South Florida, with the championship taking place on Tuesday, November 22.
