Long Island Rough Riders News Release
(Plainview, N.Y., June 23, 2004) â The Long Island Rough Riders proudly announce their first annual "Rough Riders Legends" night on Saturday, June 26th at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. The return of the former Rough Riders, many of whom went on to Major League Soccer, will include a pre-game scrimmage and the official retiring ceremony of the club's all-time leading goal scorer, Cordt Weinstein, at halftime of the game Rough Riders vs. New Hampshire.
The "Rough Riders Legends" - including former coaches Alfonso Mondelo and Paul Riley who will coach the teams - will hold an intersquad scrimmage starting at 5:30 pm. Among the former teammates will be Cordt Weinstein, Danny Mueller, Kevin Anderson, Mike Masters, Tommy Lips, David Price, Richard Nuttal, Chico Mieles, Travis Rinker, John Diffley, Adrian Gaitan and many more.
The current Rough Riders squad (1-7-1) will then take on the New Hampshire Phantoms at 7:30 pm. Earlier this season, Long Island lost 4-2 in New Hampshire (7-2-1), who are currently second in the PSL. New Hampshire's Bjorn Hansen is the league-leading goal scorer (9) while Rich Fleming leads the PSL in assists (7).
In Rough Riders player news, forward Shaun Higgins is still questionable for this weekend due to an ankle sprain. Midfield stalwart Ricky Blanchard will be out for this weekend's match, serving a one-game suspension for the red card he received this past Sunday against Pittsburgh.
