Long Island Rough Riders News Release

The Rough Riders are looking forward to getting back into the win column on Saturday, June 25th against the Northern Virginia Royals in a double header with the Long Island Lady Riders. In the first three years of their existence, from 1994 to 1996, the teams played nearly 20 home doubleheaders. As the Rough Riders' ownership changed, each squad went their separate ways regarding playing dates.

But this Saturday night at LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University , the teams will be playing a doubleheader for the first time in nine years. Two games for the price of one ticket. Advanced sale of tickets is currently at 3,000.

Long Island Junior Soccer League President Addie Mattei-Iaia of Smithtown will have the honor of kicking out the first ball. "We wanted to show unity with Long Island soccer," commented Rough Riders' General Manager Jim Kilmeade. "I contacted Lady Riders' GM Kim Wyant and she agreed to the doubleheader and then I helped get the LIJSL involved."

12 LIJSL clubs will be honoring their volunteers by giving away tickets through the Rough Riders' Volunteer Initiative in which sponsors such as Adidas, KeySpan, Modell's Sporting Goods, North Fork Bank, Vytra Health Plans and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage underwrite the cost.

This doubleheader is sponsored by KeySpan and the Globall Sports Cafe in Medford . The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a premium gift from KeySpan plus Globall Sports Cafe will host the post-doubleheader party.
