Rough Riders Partner with the Leukema & Lymphoma Society

(Plainview, N.Y., March 18, 2004) The Long Island Rough Riders have joined forces with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to create a Sand Soccer Tournament to benefit the Long Island Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This charity tournament will take place on Overlook Beach in Babylon, on Saturday, June 19, 2004.

The Sand Soccer Tournament is divided into the following divisions: U8-U10, U11-U13, U 14-U16, and also an open division for adults, both male and female. Games will be held in inflatable fields on the beach provided by Quad Soccer Performance Arena. Matches will be played in a 5v5 format, with a maximum of 8 players per team. The tournament will begin at 9:00 am, and will last all day.

Registration fee for the tournament is $200, sign-up before April 15th for the Early Bird Special. In addition, all teams are asked to fundraising to help support the battle against cancer.

"The Long Island Rough Riders and Quad Soccer are excited about partnering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," the Rough Riders Public Relations Manager Silke Repky says. Kim McCarthy from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society shares the same view: "Without the support and guidance from the LI Rough Riders, we would not be able to put together such an incredible event! We urge all soccer enthusiasts to join us in our goal to kick blood-related cancers!"

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has provided more than $358 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.

The Long Island Rough Riders are one oft he most successful soccer franchises in the United States. Capturing two National Championships in 1994 and 2002, they have launched the careers of some of the top players in America including Chris Armas, Tony Meola and Edson Buddle. In 2003, the Rough Riders organization was inducted into the United Soccer League "Hall of Fame", in recognition of their 10th year anniversary.
