Rough Riders Eager to Shipwreck Islanders

June 6, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Long Island Rough Riders News Release

The Long Island Rough Riders will try to take advantage of the clear weather anticipated for this weekend by continuing their winning ways against the Harrisburg City Islanders.

This weekend's match features the heavily anticipated clash of two teams that are both riding two-game winning streaks. Long Island comes off a 2-1 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads on May 28th, earning USL honors for goalkeeper Paul Grafer, and forwards Moussa Sy and Derrick Etienne. The Islanders are hoping to ride the wave of glory exuded from their 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Kings in front of a franchise record, standing room only crowd of 3,127.

Both teams have set their sights on the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. While the Rough Riders can relax, having already earned themselves a berth into the prestigious tournament, the Islanders must rely on the help of others. In order for Harrisburg City to qualify, the Cincinnati Kings must either defeat or draw with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this Saturday. A Kings victory would ensure the Islanders a place in the tournament and a first-round match on Wednesday, June 15th against either an amateur of Premier Development League team.

The Rough Riders will try to extend their winning ways at Mitchel Field this Saturday, June 11th at 7:30PM. For information, please visit our web site at www.liroughriders.com or call (516) 622-3900. Let's keep the streak alive!
