Long Island Rough Riders News Release

Uniondale, NY- The Rough Riders defeated the New Hampshire Phantoms, 5-2, in front of a crowd celebrating Camp Day at Mitchel Athletic Complex in their quest to make the playoffs.

New Hampshire opened the scoring when Ricky Charles scored in the 17th minute off a pass from Bjorn Hansen.

Coach Wiseman was able to settle the team down as the Rough Riders turned things around in the second half. Moussa Sy, who has been on a tear as of late, added to his season stats by putting the Rough Riders on the scoreboard. In the 48th minute, Sy took a lofted pass by Gary Sullivan and placed it right down the center of the Phantoms net to tie the score at 1-1 and give Sy his 5th goal in two home games.

The Rough Riders gathered momentum, and Matt Chulis slotted a ball past Phantoms keeper Joshua Cole off a Wilmer Cabrera free kick to give the Rough Riders a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute. With the result still in question, Derrick Etienne slammed a penalty shot passed Cole in the 71st minute after Cole received a yellow card for a taking down Sy in the goal box.

In the 72nd minute, Sy avenged the earlier lost opportunity himself when he scored his 8th goal of the season, unassisted, and put the Rough Riders up 4-1. New Hampshire, to their credit never stopped pressing. In the 74th minute, Thomas McNeil deflected a James Proctor cross past Rough Riders keeper Paul Grafer to reduce Rough Rider lead to two goals.

With the score 4-2 going into stoppage time, Etienne scored his second goal of the game off a Jose Sura cross to bring the Rough Riders a 5-2 victory.

The next Long Island Rough Riders home game will be on Saturday, July 16th at 7:30 PM when the Rough Riders face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. For information, visit www.liroughriders.com or call (516) 622-3900.
