Rough Around the Edges, Revolution's Stars Shine Bright

On Friday, March 11 the Texas Revolution hosted the Amarillo Venom at the HR BioProtect Field to start the regular season. A high scoring shootout saw the Revolution come away with the victory 65-53. There appeared to be some rough spots to work on in multiple aspects of the game, but the pure effort and talent gave the home team a well-earned and hard fought victory. A few stars shined brighter than others, none more so than quarterback Robert Kent Jr. Kent finished the day 20 for 27 through the air, with a spectacular 7 touchdowns and no interceptions, only taking 1 sack in the process. With his 2-yard Touchdown to offensive linemen Michael Wormly midway through the first quarter, Kent became the franchise's All-time leader in passing touchdowns. Kent wasn't done there though, as he threw another 5 touchdowns even after breaking the record. Clinton 'Solo' Solomon was not to be ignored, grabbing some awe-inspiring catches racking up 71 yards and 2 Touchdowns on just 5 receptions. Another man with a star who shined brighter than most wide receiver Tavarres Williams. Grabbing 7 receptions for 108 yards and 4 Touchdowns, some catches were definitely worthy of a highlight reel. Williams' impact on the game was palpable, not only producing great numbers but providing energy and excitement to the roster as well as all those in attendance.
Giving up 55 points total, 52 in the final 3 quarters, may make some people question the defensive effort of the Revolution, but anyone watching the game saw the talent and effort being put forth on down by down. Linebacker Taylor Mcculler led the way with 18 total tackles, including 2 sacks. Giorgio Walton contributed another 10 tackles, giving 2 players in double digits. Jeff Willis came up with an interception in the end zone to take away the sting of a multiple minute drive, giving the offense nothing. After giving up a kickoff return for a Touchdown, Marcell Brooks immediately answered with one of his own. After giving it everything they had for 59 minutes, the defense finally broke through. Linebacker Neil Wilcox came up with the fumble recovery in the end zone with just 35 seconds left in the game to put the Revolution up 12, and ultimately took away any venom Amarillo had remaining.
The Texas Revolution have some things to work on moving forward, but that is to be expected in a regular season opener. This season will be an exciting one to say the least, and they look to keep things going again this Saturday, March 19 at home again against the Mesquite Marshalls with kickoff at 7:05pm.
